PRP Use For Infertility; Getting the Uterus Ready!

Getting pregnant has several critical steps. Even couples who are helped to ovulate, have a good sperm count, and time their conception perfectly may not conceive if the lining of the uterus is not healthy enough for implantation. Preparing the uterine lining has mostly been done with estrogen treatments. It's also important to be sure you don't have other problems with the uterus, including scaring, or infection, or polyps, but again, in the absence of these some women do not conceive. Hundreds of genes that are differently expressed at the time of implantation, as well as the immune system, play an active role during embryo-endometrium interaction Other than estrogen medicines like silenafil, aspirin and heparin have been tried with varying success. The lining is so complex that it takes the coordinated efforts of many hormones and the synchronization of literally hundreds of genes to establish a uterus with the proper place for  implantation so that coordination between...

Do It Like the Dutch: Bike To Work

In the Netherlands about 25% of people bike to work, and yet in the US, we only have 3% of bikers to work. Like any other mode of physical activity: lower death rates, lower rates of obesity, more fitness and less reported fatigue! And more of us are biking for recreation and fitness, as with the trend for cycling classes and types of fitness cycling. But now and then biking to work in a day that you may not get in that cycling class has significant potential to up your calorie burn and improve your heart, your waist, and some studies say even your mind! For women, we have a couple of other considerations. And if you are starting to experience some sexual side effects that cannot be explained in other ways, you may need to speak to your gyno about your biking strategies, as we do know that we have to protect those genital tissues.  In real life: balance, clothing, protective lighting and sun screen are all special considerations on a day by day basis so that we can bike. And then ...

Re-Shape Your Breasts Non-Invasively

Breast shape and reshaping the breast is one of the topics gals get into with their gynos, their BFFs, and their hair dressers on a regular basis. The oldest trick in the book to change breast appearance is to stand up straight, and maybe even pull your shoulders back. And then there is the tried and true work out for the pectoral muscles underneath your breasts to build them. There have been lots of theories, gadgets, and of course the newest bra that have headlined to give you the shape you want, but the bra is with the clothing on, and what shape the breast is when the bra comes off that is what women really want to know. Using Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can non-invasively give you a breast lift. This will work very well on women with B and C up breasts, larger breasts may notice skin improvement only. If you are content with the shape of the main area of the breast itself, and less about how to effectively change the shape of what has come to be known as 'bra fat.'  N...

Platetet Rich Plasma and Regrowth of Hair

Thinning and loss of hair is very distressing for women. Hormonal balancing treatments, especially with anti-androgen treatments are often the solution to stop hair loss. But one of the issues when hair loss is stopped is how to replace the hairs that are lost. Hair restoration by the use of platelet rich plasma (PRP) is the newest and some would say the most dramatic treatment for regrowing one's own hair. In the New York Times on April 16th the technology of treating the scalp with the PRP for women is highlighted as an extremely effective treatment for women. PRP injections into the scalp is a treatment that actually involves the use of your own blood plasma. The plasma with the platelets is prepared by extraction from the red blood cell component and then concentrated to release growth factors. the Arteriocyte Magellan PRP machine is the leading PRP company on the market as ti provides the highest concentration of growth factors. Treatments with products that do not concen...

Bladder Fix or Just Timming The Bathroom Breaks To Cure This Problem?

Women who run to the bathroom to pee too often have bladders that do not react normally to the signals of full and empty. Most women can't stand this life intrusion and want it fixed which is why they find themselves at their gyno office discussing whether they should begin medicine or get a surgery, when to use a pessary,  or when to hire a physical therapist, or when to get a  rejuvenating laser, PTNS therapy, or even a  PRP shot, bulking agents, or Botox therapy. All these therapies can be successful, and at Women's Health Practice we want to help you be successful!   Extra trips to the bathroom or just feeling like you have to go with out really having to empty. called the "overactive bladder" or OAB. Medically we say that overactive bladders have a "SUDDEN, COMPELLING DESIRE TO PASS URINE THAT IS DIFFICULT TO DEFER"  Physicians might also term term this urgency . Women say that it's not a sensation that can be avoided, when they e...

Getting Hair Growth Cycle Back On Track

There are many theories about why and how we lose hair, and how to get your hair growth back on track. It may simply be a biologic response to lose hair periodically. If you are losing hair, most likely it's something you can recover from if in fact you actually get your hair growth cycle back on track. You are brushing your hair and suddenly you look at the brush, and it's filled with hair, the skin has more hair than usual, the drain in the show is showing signs as well. It's probably not going to be severe, it's probably not going to be long lasting, but it's disturbing when your hair loss is worse than usual. It's a form of stress for most women. The hair grows from follicles in healthy scalp and it cycles though growth of the hair from a follicle, then a period when the follicle withers or involutes and when that happens to that follicle with shedding of hair, and finally a rest period or the follicles hibernate. This is a three step process of anagen, cat...

Running, Dancing, Pounding: The Consequences on Your Bladder

Runners when questioned are no different than other women who create pelvic pressure during exercise, thus some runners during their running events is a time that they complain of extra strain on their bladders. Longer races, in spite of some dehydration will create extra strain not only because of pounding through those half marathons, but perhaps just plain holding their pee a bit too long. Maybe it's just a matter of it being wedding season, you want to rock out until that bouquet is flung! Doing the Watusi in the highest heals may  be a bit strenuous on an already challenged bladder. Although your gyno has cautioned that latte breaks from shopping, and just getting too much caffeine, sugars, citrus and salt can affect the causes of incontinence, even with being good on your diet you may be struggling with your bladder. Pelvic examinations and cystometric testing as well as other tests can help make a diagnosis of any medical concerns.  Pessaries can be of help as wel...

Smokers Wet Their Pants (more frequently)

Another gyno lecture about stopping to smoke, and yes, we can help you do that. But bottom line, if you didn't realize why you are having increasing problem with over active bladder, urge incontinence or mixed incontinence disorders, well for those of you who still smoke are all linked to smoking. Of course smokers have more frequent and more forceful coughs too, so the challenge to the bladder integrity is there constantly. Tobacco side products and nicotine lower estrogen, which may also have the long term consequences of weakening your pelvic floor. So eCigs probably won't help you solve this problem, you really should quit! There probably is also a direct link with nicotine and contractions of the bladder wall called detrusor contractions.Studies also reveal that more urinary retention occurs in smokers, and it can be a source of infections and lower abdominal discomfort.   Cystometrics at womenshealthpractice.com can help you make a diagnosis. And some of these changes...
