As Big A Role in Women's Health Tampons Play, In The Future They May Become Our Source of Stem Cells

Invented in 1933, the tampon is almost universally used by all women at some time. But for women who have monthly period the costs can be high, some women say this is in part due to unfair taxation. This by what of what is known as a Tampon Tax. Whether you believe in this tax or night, light  the media has shed on 'tampon tax' has highlighted the issues of tampon use most women don't think about. Tampons are taxed, as are most actual medical supplies, like a band aid. Medications are not taxed, and some are arguing that tampons are a health necessity and shouldn't be taxed. Some female reporters are feeling that the tampon tax twitter feed is not right and the tax is fair, so not every one agrees.   Tampons can prevent stress incontinence. Stem cell sources are potentially abundant and for women: monthly! Their uses are not ubiquitous, but its getting more and more likely that some day you will use your stem cell s. It really is more effective if you could just sa...

Tampon Health

Tampons are designed to catch menstrual flow. They are easy to use, affordable, and preferable in many cases. Simplistically speaking choosing the right tampon shouldn't be difficult for most women and fairly quidkly we learn that both the fit and the absorbancy have to match your anatomy and physiology to be comfortable and safe. Tampons that contained certain types of fibers in the 1970s and 1980s that were too absorbant encouraged the overgrowth of bacteria that caused Toxic Shock Syndrome .  Once these polyacrylate rayon-containing tampons were removed from the market very few of these cases are ever reported. Tampons are packaged to be sterile from production, but most are not sterile, and rarely there have been recalls of sanitary products that have been determined to carry bacteria from the manufacturing point. Tampons are not a typical source of infection. Tampons come in many sizes, and larger ones will retain more menstrual blood, for the most part. Most phys...

Retained Tampon

Losing a tampon in the vagina is not as absurd as it sounds. It really is a matter of accidentally not removing one you've put there.Maybe it got to be a late day of your period, or you changed during the night, and sleepiness took over. Tampons are designed to absorb a lot of moisture, although not as much as they actually used to absorb, and it's often not apparent for a long time that something is a bit amiss. In general the patients we see have no actual pain, and often they don't have much discharge, but complain most dramatically of odor. Occasionally there is a significant amount of discharge. The discharge usually turns dark brown, it can even be black. Actually our ability to normalize the bacteria in the vagina is so great that many physicians will just treat with removing the 'lost' or 'forgotten' tampon and often antibiotics aren't necessary unless the odor and discharge doesn't resolve for a few days. Serious side effects such as Toxic ...

What tampon to Wear

Lots of unflattering sayings about women criticized us when we were at that time of the month, and not just Aunt Flo visiting. And long before On the rag became derogatory we used some pretty proper sounding private garments such as lint in biblical times or wool in ancient Rome and paper in Japan and shards of grass on the Serengeti planes of Africa. Now we pretty much clip coupons and grab the cheapest right? But some are more green. Yanks have gotten used to those paper insertion devices, but think about that once in a while, it really is a waste of some paper products. There are companies making more organic and less chemical products to use as well. For sensitive skin consider alternatives the next time you shop. And then our anatomy. When was the last time your gyno really gave you advice as to what size, shape, dimension. I guess trial and error is still friendly for our "friend".
