Fertile Window

We mentioned the fertile window briefly in the post on how to get pregnant , but thought that we would review it again. Sperm are now thought to be able to live in a woman's body, after sex, for about 6 days if she has well-estrogenized cervical mucus. Eggs however live for about a day, or in some cases less. Newest research states that intercourse daily during the fertile window does help women get pregnant. For the woman who has a typical 28 day menstrual cycle, her fertile window is those 6 days ending on the day of ovulation. For this typical woman the best days to get pregnant are day 10-17 of your cycle, counting the first day of bleeding as your first day. You are not likely to be fertile if you wait for sex until after ovulation. Once a woman ovulates, there typically is not enough time for sperm to get to the egg as the egg survives for such short periods of time. No one has established how long you have to wait without sex before having your fertile sex. Some experts s...

Menstrual Panting? You Breathe Differently When You Ovulate Then You Breath When On Your Period

In a study published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine it was noted that depending on where you are in your menstrual cycle, you have different breathing patterns and different lung and respiratory symptoms. The group RHINE, studying women and Respiratory Health in Northern Europe demonstrated that whether you have wheezing, shortness of breath and coughing, depends upon the stage of the menstrual cycle. Shortness of breath is highest on days 7-21 of awoman's cycle, counting the first day of bleeding as day 1, wheezing is lowest just before and after the menstrual period, and coughing is worst around the time of ovulation.  All breathing symptoms are worse in those with acute or chronic cough. So even a cold or allergy symptom can worsen when you are in this midcycle phase. The docs are going so far as to say accurate data regarding the symptoms you have can allow them to tailor medication dosing to days of the cycle for better control of sympto...

Are Women Fertile in Menopause? Depends on Your Hormone Stage

When it comes to women in menopause, and what symptoms to expect and how long to anticipate they will last it's important to understand what phase you are in. The physicians of an important workshop in 2001 developed a formal list of the menopause transition phases. The physicians call these special phases the Stage of menopause you are in. Which 'Stage' is important to help you and your physician understand how symptomatic you are, how much bleeding there is, and how long this is going to continue. Specifically they rely on definite menstrual period descriptions and actual recommendations regarding the FSH levels.  There are Five Stages before the final period (FMP, Final Menstrual Period), and two after the Formal “Menopause.” The fie stages are labeled from -5 to -1 and after menopause the stages are +1 and +2. In 2011 a group met to fine tune the stages and their conference was called "ReSTAGE". ReSTAGE took information from the TREMIN study, the Melbou...
