Prego Acne

Prego women often have worse acne in pregnancy, stopping the pill, hormonal fluctuations, abandoning products that were working to control the acne, stopping laser treatments, the hormones are responsible for most of it. Thankfully actually not all pregos do get a worsening of their acne. If treatment regimens that were working prior to pregnancy were abandoned you can have initial flares that aren't very directly related to the pregnancy. So gab to your gyno immediately about what regimens are safe, many are. Like your birth control pills, yes, the pregnancy elevations in estrogen keep zits at bay several ways: less testosterone from the ovary and more sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) from the liver (to bind the male hormones that do escape and circulate). Some study shows that as many as a third of acne cases actually improve in pregnancy, but most women will report some worsening. With all that estrogen circulating how can that be!? Progesterone, made in large doses f...

Punch in Your Sex Life and Punch in Your Workouts

Testosterone is the male hormone, but the female ovary does make it as well. It is associated, when used in high doses, with side effects such as oily skin, acne, deep voice, hair growth on your chin, and hair loss on your head. But as an anabolic hormone it can pump your muscles and give you energy as well. Al the male hormones, or androgens,  produced in our body can have very potent effects, Androgens in women are likely important for libido and sexual function, with the potential for beneficial effects on bone mineral density, body composition, energy level, and psychological well-being. For many years women have been reporting that it helps with sex drive, but we didn't always have the studies to back up treatment strategies. Testosterone decreases with aging, and 50% drop with menopause. By natural menopause some women have the same testosterone level as women who have had a surgical menopause . The testosterone patch studies done with Intrinsa showed a slight libido boost...

Is Acne Physiologic?

I think we think of physiology as something that is intrinsic to health. Meaning that if you don't have this normal physiology, something is wrong. Like getting that first period, or having that first period stop! If something is so universal that virtually everyone has it, then maybe it's part of our physiology and not part of our pathology. Acne is one of those things. Basically the follicle in the dermis proliverates, the sebum production goes up, inflammation moves in and then the Propionibacterium acne s bacteria moves in for the full on pimple. So back to the physiology part, maybe it's the skin's way of getting rid of toxins that shouldn't be there. Ah ha! That's the answer, figure out a way to get rid of toxins: scrubbing, cleansing, prepping, peeling, all that sort of thing in the skin and we can be physiological and beautiful.

Let My Skin Be Clear

Even those with acne and minor skin breakouts want to have a bit of color with their sun protection. So there are some great alternatives when it comes to mineral makeup. For some it's a matter of a quick BB cream and go, for others it's a bit more laborious. Step after Step after Step, for those girls that want things just so! This approach, can be very effective for skin but then again it can be a tiresome regimen for girls on the go. So when hormonal breakouts hit, switch it up and put some punch in the make up add in what the Gyno Gab gal has at  Hada Cosmetic Medicine   Let Me Be Clear— by Colorscience. It's a mineral makeup medication for those with acne. It contains salicylic acid which treats the pimples themselves. And the other minerals such as vitamin E, minerals, aloe, algae, lavender, cypress, ylang ylang and melissa that tackle the redness, inflammation, irritation and the drying of skin that often accompany hormonal breakouts is what makes this a treatmen...
